As members of the San Diego Tennis Federation, we have come together to enjoy our common interest in the sport of tennis. The way we conduct ourselves on and off the court at SDTF events and with our fellow members has an impact on everyone's enjoyment of the game and the value of each of our memberships. To insure that everyone is best served, we expect our members to follow this basic Code of Conduct.

1. All players are expected to play and conduct themselves with a high degree of sportsmanship and integrity.
2. Follow the rules and always give your opponent the benefit of the doubt if there is a questionable call or dispute. Refer to the USTA's "Friend at Court" guidelines.
3. All on-court issues should be resolved amicably by the players.
4. Do not use profanities or make offensive gestures that may offend others. Do not throw your racquet or engage in other aggressive displays of anger.
5. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. This includes harassment of a sexual or bullying nature.
6. Regardless of the outcome of a match, opponents should meet at the net and shake hands at its conclusion. Do not begin a match without the intention and ability to complete it. Discuss any time limitations with your opponent in advance. If you are unable to complete a match due to an emergency or injury, notify your opponent immediately. Dissatisfaction with the score, level of competitiveness, or quality of play is not an acceptable reason to walk away from a match prematurely.
7. Members should communicate in a positive manner. Aggressive or offensive communications, oral or written (text, email, or other written communications) are not appropriate. It is also not appropriate to circulate or make public any negative or derogatory statements about other members (via email, Facebook, Twitter or other social media).
8. Discrimination based on race, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, national origin, or disability will not be tolerated.
9. Theft or destruction of the property of other members or the SDTF will not be tolerated.
10. All directives by officials, facility staff or the SDTF Board are to be followed.

To make sure the above Code is followed, the Board of Directors of the SDTF is committed to taking action against any infractions. As with any dispute or disagreement, it is always best if the parties resolve it among themselves. If this cannot be done, members are encouraged to first bring the matter to the attention of the person running the event (Friday night doubles, clinic, team tennis, club championships, etc). Should the event organizer not be able to satisfactorily resolve the issue, it should be brought to the attention of the SDTF Board. The Board will review and adjudicate the situation. Members found to be in violation of the Code of Conduct may be warned, sanctioned or, in extreme cases, removed from the club. The decision of the Board is final.

The goal of the SDTF is to create a fun social and competitive environment for its members where we can come together and enjoy the sport we love. We rely on each and every member to follow the spirit of our Code of Conduct and always err on the side of integrity and sportsmanship. We encourage you to speak up if you see, hear or experience something that you think isn't right. That will make the SDTF a better organization for all of our members.
